Transparency is Key: Introducing Checkr ETA

We’re building Checkr to help address the needs of both customers and candidates. To that end, one of the biggest challenges we’ve heard consistently is the lack of transparency throughout the background check process. Specifically, knowing how long a background check will take from beginning to end.

While this may sound like a straightforward problem with an equally straightforward solution, the truth is, when you really dig into an individual background check, you’ll realize that there are a lot of factors and dependencies that go into delivering a single report. Even something as simple as the time of day can impact when a report will be completed. For example, if you put in a background check report order on a Friday afternoon, it may only take 24 hours to return; however, if it’s a holiday weekend, this alone can delay the report by several hours or even days. Nuances like these make predicting when a background check will be complete incredibly complex.

We’ve tried to solve for some of this complexity with the launch of Checkr ETA, the most accurate background check report completion predictor in the industry. Checkr ETA uses machine learning and data from over 20 million background checks per year to predict turnaround times at the county level and provide ETAs for individual reports. All together, that gives us predictions that are 95% accurate within one business day. Over time, as we gather more data, our predictions will grow increasingly more reliable.
