Our co-founders met at a gig start-up where they discovered that traditional background checks are slow, manual, and designed to “screen-out” candidates. Knowing screenings could be faster, fairer, and more accurate, they set out with new principles to disrupt the industry.

Checkr was launched in 2014, pioneering the first background check API. Our platform combines the best in human expertise, software automation, and AI to make it easy for organizations to make safe and fair decisions for their team, customers, and communities.

Checkr is a leader in advocating for the business benefits of fair chance hiring. Fair chance hiring is the practice of basing employment decisions on a candidate’s qualifications and eligibility for a role, rather than automatic disqualification due to an arrest or conviction history.
