California Issues Executive Order on AI’s Impact on Workers
Update: June 5, 2026
California Governor Gavin Newsome signed Executive Order N-6-26 on May 21, 2026, calling for a study on AI-driven workforce disruptions and development of policy recommendations, including potential disproportionate impacts on demographic groups, and early warning signs on future labor disruptions. While the EO directs study and development of action plans to address how the rapid adoption of AI at scale may impact California workers, nothing specifically in the EO was directed at the use of AI tools for hiring or employment decisions.
Checkr Takeaway: We will continue to monitor policy developments stemming from the new EO, but in the short term there does not appear to be any concrete impacts related to Checkr’s products or services.
